NEW GROUND WATER SUPPLY WELL

The City of Collinsville was experiencing ongoing maintenance problems with one of their ground water supply wells. The decided to construct a new well. Instead of the more conventional construction method of hiring a consulting engineer, the city elected to request design-construct proposals for the project. This type of constructing method placed all the responsibility for the project on the design-build contractor.

Brotcke Well & Pump was selected for the project. Our team of registered professional engineers, geologists and construction crews coupled with a competitive bid offered the best of both worlds for the City of Collinsville. Based on our reputation and skills, the city was assured a quality project and received the best value as the engineering costs were included in the construction costs.

An engineering analysis of the well site was required to ensure a satisfactory well construction. A test hole was performed to obtain representative samples of the aquifer and formation and to determine the depth of the underlying bedrock. The samples had gradation tests performed and based on the results the gravel pack was selected. A properly selected gravel back retained the native formation. A well screen with the proper slot size was then chosen to retain the gravel pack.

The analysis of the formation allowed the construction of a 1200 gpm gravel wall well at the site. Subsequent pump tests showed no sand production and a safe yield well in excess of the pump capacity.

The design-build concept was a win-win choice for the City of Collinsville and Brotcke Well & Pump.
